Opel will add Apple's CarPlay and Google's Android Auto cell phone integration platforms to its mini, small, compact and midsize models during the 2016 model year.
The first application will debut in the next-generation Astra sedan in September.
Each platform enables a driver to connect a smartphone to the car's infotainment system through a USB port. Several of the phone's features can then be operated by using the car's touchscreen or steering wheel buttons.
Opel's parent General Motors Co. is rolling out both systems in the U.S. across its Chevrolet brand. Each platforms allows the driver to make and receive hands-free phone calls, listen to music and send and receive text messages using voice commands. Android Auto also links Google maps to the car's navigation screen.
