PSA Group’s Opel/Vauxhall unit plans to launch an all-electric version of its next-generation Corsa subcompact hatchback in 2020.
The Corsa will be one of four electrified vehicles Opel/Vauxhall plans to introduce by then. Under the brands’ new PACE strategic plan, all Opel/Vauxhall cars will have an electrified powertrain option by 2024.
The all-new conventionally powered Corsa will debut next year. The new model will ride on a PSA platform, making it one of the first vehicles to make the switch since PSA acquired Opel/Vauxhall from General Motors Co. last year.
All versions of the Corsa will be built at Opel’s assembly plant in Zaragoza, Spain. The carmaker reached an agreement last month with labor unions to reduce costs at the facility. The current Corsa is built at Opel’s plant in Eisenach, Germany.
Opel is phasing out its first EV, the slow-selling Ampera-e, this year. That vehicle is based on the Chevrolet Bolt.
