Crude oil futures jumped $1.30 per barrel yesterday on the New York Mercantile Exchange to settle at $98.31.

Analysts say traders were reacting to the Federal Reserve's actions to revive the American economy, which could boost energy consumption.

Crude prices have soared $10.25 per barrel since the end of August and more than $20 since late June amid intensifying tensions in the Middle East.

The price of gasoline in the U.S. also continues to climb. The average price nationwide has surged 17 cents per gallon over the past month to $3.87, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. Five cents of that gain occurred in the past week.
