The National Transportation Safety Board is urging the U.S. government to set standards for collision-avoidance technology and require those systems in cars and commercial vehicles.

The NTSB specifically suggests the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration impose mandates for adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, electronic stability control, forward collision warning and lane departure warning systems.

The board, best known for investigating plane crashes, did not suggest a timetable or sequence for adopting the technologies.
