No Pick Yet to Succeed Ghosn at Nissan

Outside directors at Nissan Motor Co. met on Tuesday but failed to nominate a board member to replace Carlos Ghosn as chairman, according to media reports.

The three-member panel is expected to make its recommendation to the board by Dec. 17. Ghosn was arrested on Nov. 19 for alleged financial wrongdoing and was removed as chairman three days later.

Reports say the two most likely candidates for the chairmanship are CEO Hiroto Saikawa, a Ghosn protege who led the internal investigation against him, and Toshiyuki Shiga, vice chairman and former Ghosn confidant.

The three independent board members tasked with nominating Ghosn successor are Jean-Baptiste Duzan, a retired Renault financial and purchasing executive; Keiko Ihara, a former race car driver and the board’s only female member; and Masakazu Toyoda, an industry policy expert who joined to board in June.
