Nissan is eager to join BMW and Tesla in discussions about collaborating on electric vehicle charging technology and networks, according to the Financial Times, which cites unnamed sources at all three companies.

Last week BMW confirmed it has met with Tesla on the subject. The FT points out that BMW, Nissan and Tesla currently account for about 80% of the world's EV sales.

The EV industry agrees that a lack of charging infrastructure has hurt demand for electrics. But a lack of standardized charger plug design and the dearth of faster, higher-power chargers also hampers vehicle sales.
