Nissan Motor Co. has asked its South Korean unit to boost output of the company’s popular Rogue SUV as shifting exchange rates make the country a more attractive export base.
Renault Samsung Motors Co. CEO Park Dong-hoon tells Reuters the home office is requesting his unit increase its scheduled output of 125,000 Rogues by 8,000 units this year. He says the affiliate is determining how to meet the request.
Nissan also produces the Rogue in Japan and the U.S. But a 20% jump in the yen against the dollar in 2016 means less profit for units exported from Japan. Korea’s yuan has risen only 7% against the dollar so far this year.
