Nissan Motor Co. is readying a $900 million plan to hike production capacity in China 40% by 2021, sources tell Reuters.

The spending will expand capacity at two existing factories operated by Nissan and partner Dongfeng Group and add a third plant in Wuhan. The new facility will be able to build about 300,000 vehicles per year and raise the joint venture’s annual capability to 2.1 million vehicles, according to Reuters.

Nissan sold about 1.5 million vehicles in China in 2017. Last year the market’s two largest producers, General Motors and Volkswagen, each sold some 4 million vehicles.

Nissan’s new “Triple One” strategy announced in February aims to boost sales in China with new electrified models, light commercial vehicles and its low-cost Venucia domestic brand.
