Nissan Motor Co. is adding a two-door version of its Titan fullsize pickup truck to better compete in the U.S. commercial vehicle segment, which has long been dominated by U.S. Big 3 carmakers.
Due late this autumn, the Titan Single Cab is expected to account for 15% of Titan sales in the U.S. The carmaker also will sell the standard four-door Titan Crew Cab and an upcoming king-cab model.
At launch, the base Single Cab will be powered by a 5.6-liter V-8 engine that makes 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque. A V-6 engine is expected to be added later.
The extended wheelbase Titan XD Single Cab will offer a choice of the 5.6-mill and a 5.0-liter Cummins V-8 diesel engine. The latter makes 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque.
The gasoline engines will be mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission. The diesel V-8 is paired with an Aisin 6-speed automatic.
Both variants get an extra 320 lbs of payload and 240-320 lbs more towing capacity. This will allow the diesel-powered model to carry more than 2,900 lbs and tow nearly 11,600 lbs.
