Nissan Motor Co. has reworked its 2012 London taxi concept with styling cues borrowed from the city's iconic hackney carriage. The new taxi will go on sale in London in December.
Highlights include round headlamps, a large trapezoidal grille and classic roof-mounted "taxi" sign.
The vehicle is based on Nissan's NV200 van platform, the same one used to develop taxis for Barcelona, New York City and Tokyo.
The London variant was developed at Nissan's design studio in Paddington specifically to be easily recognized by Londoners as one of the city's iconic black cabs.
The Nissan taxi will debut with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and automatic transmission. The company says it will offer an all-electric variant in 2015.
