Nissan Motor Co. is preparing to call back 234,900 of its late-model cars and crossovers in the U.S. and Canada to fix an antilock brake system pump flaw that could cause a fire.
The recall targets 2015-2017 model Nissan Murano crossover vehicles, 2016-2017 model Nissan Maxima sedans, 2017-2018 model Nissan Pathfinder SUVs and 2017 model Infiniti QX60 large crossovers. All but 20,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the U.S. The flaw involves a seal that could leak brake fluid into an electronic control module, creating a short circuit that could eventually ignite the fluid and cause a fire.
The recall is expected to begin on Oct. 15. In the meantime, Nissan is advising affected owners whose ABS warning lamp is continually illuminated to park their vehicles outdoors and away from structures and other vehicles until repairs are made.
