Nissan Motor Co. is preparing to call back 120,300 cars and crossover vehicles in the U.S. to repair an antilock brake system pump that could leak fluid and cause a fire.
Targeted models are 2015-2017 Murano crossovers, including some hybrid models, and 2016-2017 Maxima sedans. Brake fluid from the pump could short-circuit the ABS electronic controller, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Nissan has not yet determined when the recall will begin. In the meantime, NHTSA says a problem can be detected if the ABS warning lamp remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds after the engine starts. Should that happen, the agency advises owners not to drive the vehicle and to park it outside and away from other objects.
