Nissan Motor Co. is recalling 298,700 vehicles in the U.S. to replace a center console trim panel that could interfere with the driver's ability to press the brake pedal.
The campaign covers 2012-2015 model Versa mini-sedans and 2014-2015 Versa Note five-door hatches. The recall follows an investigation launched by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in April. The agency received 24 consumer complaints that the trim could catch the edge of the driver's shoe as it rests on the accelerator and hamper the ability to quickly switch to the brake pedal.
Nissan reports one injury accident related to the problem. The company plans to begin the recall, which upgrades a service campaign Nissan launched five months ago to modify the panel, in October.
