Nissan Motor Co. is launching a beefed-up version of its Navara midsize pickup truck in Europe.

The carmaker unveiled the Navara Off-Roader AT32 at last week’s Birmingham (U.K.) Commercial Vehicle Show. Nissan developed the vehicle with Arctic Trucks Ltd., an Iceland-based customization shop that specializes in extreme off-road packages.

The truck’s suspension has been lifted nearly an inch, raising its ground clearance to 9.6 inches. And the Navara AT32’s approach angle has been increased from 30° to 35°, while the breakover angle is boosted two degrees to 24°.

Other goodies include a locking front differential (in addition to the base Navara’s rear differential), underbody skid plates, flared fenders and an air intake snorkel that Nissan says heightens wading depth by eight inches. The off-road pickup rides on beefy 32-inch tires that are wrapped around 17-inch alloy rims provided by Arctic Trucks.

No information was provided about the AT32’s powertrain. The base Navara is fitted with a 2.3-liter diesel that makes 188 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.

The Navara AT32 is expected to compete with Ford’s upcoming Ranger Raptor off-road model. That vehicle’s 2.0-liter diesel kicks out 210 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque. The new Navara off-road has a 2.5° approach angle advantage over the Ranger Raptor.
