Nissan Motor Co. has widened its U.S. recall of vehicles equipped with faulty Takata Corp. passenger-side airbag inflators to 52,700 units from 30,000 last month.
The campaign remains limited to seven high-humidity states and five U.S. territories. But the expanded recall covers a broader range of model years.
Takata and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration say high humidity can make the inflators explode when triggered.
The expanded campaign covers 2003-2005 model Pathfinder SUVs, 2004-2006 Sentra small sedans, 2003-2005 Infiniti FX35/FX45 sporty crossovers, 2003-2004 Infiniti I35 large luxury sedans and 2006 Infiniti M35 and M45 sport sedans.
