Nissan Motor Co. is adding about 45,000 Sentra small sedans to the group of 2004-2006 vehicles it is recalling to replace Takata Corp. airbag inflators that could explode when activated, Reuters reports.
The Sentras were added after a woman in Louisiana was injured from shrapnel ejected by the Takata airbag system in a 2006 Sentra, according to Bloomberg News. It says the woman has filed a lawsuit against Nissan.
Nissan and nine other carmakers have been recalling cars sold in certain regions to replace their Takata airbag inflators. Takata says a combination of age, high humidity and high temperatures appears to cause the inflators to degrade and then misfire when triggered by a crash.
