Nissan Motor Co. has broadened its internal investigation into possible financial wrongdoing by former Chairman Carlos Ghosn to cover “pretty much everywhere and everything,” says the Financial Times.
Sources tell the newspaper that Nissan is using digital forensics experts to delve into data from laptop computers and mobile phones. The objective is to look for potential patterns of illegal behavior between Ghosn and several business associates in Latin America and the Middle East.
FT says much of the probe centers on Brazil and the possible enrichment of Ghosn family members through Nissan and its subsidiaries. At the same time, investigators want to determine whether any alleged misdeeds could be conducted without the help of other Nissan executives.
Nissan, which is trying to implement management oversight reforms, also is eager to identify any procedures and protocols that enabled the misuse of corporate funds, according to FT.
