Nissan Motor Co. has expanded an earlier recall to fix a fuel tank seal that could leak in a crash.
The original campaign in July covered about 5,500 of the company’s 2016 model Maxima large sedans. The expanded recall broadens the Maxima callback and adds 2013-2015 model Altima midsize sedans, bringing the U.S. total to 46,800 units. All affected cars are equipped with V-6 engines.
Nissan also will repair about 12,000 of its 2014-2016 model Teana sedans, a variant of the Maxima made and sold in Russia.
The problem involves a seal between the fuel tank and fuel sending unit, according to the company. It discovered the flaw during crash tests and reports no cases of fuel leaks to date.
