Nissan Motor Co. is preparing to recall 220,400 of its 2013 model Altima sedans to repair a backup latch that could allow the hood to fly open when the car is moving.

The problem is caused by interference between the secondary latch lever and hood inner panel. If the latch binds, it won't provide backup security for the hood's main latch.

Dealers will adjust the lever and clean and lubricate its hinge. If an inspection detects corrosion, they will replace the entire latch assembly.
