The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration plans to replace a trio of associate administrators with a newly created executive director position, Automotive News reports.
The new director would operate as the agency's chief operating officer to oversee and presumably accelerate NHTSA's vehicle recall operations.
The reorganization will follow the departure of three associate administrators at the agency. Chief Counsel Kevin Vincent has moved to the Dept. of Transportation's office of general counsel. Nancy Lewis, who was associate administrator for enforcement, retired earlier this year. Daniel Smith, senior associate administrator for vehicle safety, is retiring this month.
An NHTSA job posting says the executive director will oversee the organization's seven associate administrators. AN notes the agency also is looking for a new chief financial officer and a senior advisor on strategy and policy.
