The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reiterates it will soon widen its probe of Takata Corp.’s exploding airbag Inflators to include more carmakers.
The current investigation covers 11 manufacturers. Last month Bloomberg News reported that NHTSA was considering an order to expand the scope after Takata said it had supplied similar inflators to seven other car and truck makers too: Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Spartan Motors, Suzuki, Tesla, Volkswagen and Volvo Trucks.
The agency has since asked each of the new companies whether they plan any service actions and what problems they might face if ordered to recall vehicles equipped with Takata inflators. NHTSA intends to reveal its plans on Thursday.
