Previous-generation Ford F-150 pickup trucks that suddenly lose all braking power are being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The probe targets 420,000 F-150s built during the 2013-2014 model years and equipped with 3.5-liter V-6 engines.
NHTSA reports 33 owner complaints, including 20 filed within the past seven months. Several owners say mechanics found that brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir had leaked into the brake booster.
The preliminary investigation will assess the scope of the issue. NHTSA may then upgrade the probe to an engineering analysis, which often signals an impending recall.
