U.S. safety regulators have expanded an investigations of door fires in Chevrolet Trailblazer SUVs by 32,400 units to 341,800 vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also elevated the probe to an engineering analysis, a signal that a recall is likely.
NHTSA opened an investigation in February after receiving reports of smoke or electrical fires that appear to have occurred in the driver-side power window switch. The agency has since logged 83 complaints involving melted door switch modules, switches that don't work properly and driver door fires including some that reportedly occurred when the vehicle was parked.
