Renault SA’s next-generation Megane RS hot hatchback will be powered by an updated version of the carmaker’s turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine.
The powerplant is expected to generate 300 hp—up 9% from the current model’s 275-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four—and improve fuel efficiency and emissions performance to help meet more stringent regulations due in Europe in coming years.
The new Megane RS, which is expected in about two years, also will get a dual-clutch transmission in place of the current 6-speed manual, according to German media reports. The change is designed to help boost sales outside of Europe.
Aggressive styling cues likely will be maintained, but the new RS will be sold exclusively as a four-door model, according to the reports. They say Renault dropped the two-door version to cut development and production costs.
