The redesigned XF sedan that Jaguar intends to introduce about a year from now will be both larger and lighter than the current model, says Autocar.

The British enthusiast magazine cites spy photos of the car being testing at the Nurburgring. It says the midsize XF is growing in size in part to differentiate it from the upcoming XE sedan Jaguar unveiled at the Paris auto show a week ago.

Both cars will adopt the company's new aluminum-intensive architecture. Autocar says the XF also will borrow the XE's aluminum front suspension.

The resulting weight saving makes it likely the XF will use the same 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder Ingenium diesel engines scheduled for the XE, according to the magazine. Autocar says the XF also is likely to offer the supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine currently found in the Jaguar F-type.
