Daimler AG’s Mercedes-AMG unit will use a hybrid-electric powertrain on its next-generation C63 sedan.

Some sort of electrification is a “given” to meet future emissions and fuel economy standards, Tobias Moers, who heads the performance sub-brand, tells Car Advice. Moers also hints that the C63 hybrid will use an intelligent “always-on” strategy and be paired with all-wheel drive.

The carmaker unveiled the facelifted AMG C63 last week at the New York auto show. The rear-wheel-drive vehicle, which won’t debut until early next year, is powered by a 4.0-liter V-8 engine that makes 469 hp. Output jumps to 503 hp for the top-end C53 S model.

Moers doesn’t say when the next-generation hybrid C63 will be introduced.
