The successor to Koenigsegg SA’s record-setting Agera supercar will be called the Ragnarok and be powered by a 1,440-hp engine, according to media reports.
The new model is due to be unveiled next March at the Geneva auto show. Koenigsegg previously released a teaser drawing of the vehicle—showing a curvy rear-end and large wing—and has indicated the car will be more capable than the Agera, which set the speed record for a production car last year at 277.9 mph.
The Ragnarok name, which was first reported by The Supercar Blog, refers to an apocalyptic event in Norse mythology. Koenigsegg’s current model scheme uses names ending with “era.” The Agera means “to act” in Swedish, while the new Regera means to reign or rule.
A separate blog in McLaren Life earlier this week posted unconfirmed performance specifications of 1,440-hp and a 9,000 rpm redline. The report says Koenigsegg is targeting a curb weight of 1,200 kg (2,600 lbs) for the new car.
The rear-wheel-drive Agera RS weighs in at just under 1,400 kg (3,100 lbs). The speedster is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine that kicks out 1,341 hp and about 1,000 lb-ft of torque.
