South Korea's SsangYong Motor Co. describes its new XLV-Air concept vehicle as a pre-production version of a long wheelbase, 7-seat variant of its Tivoli crossover/SUV.
The company released sketches of the XLV and another concept, the XAV-Adventure crossover vehicle, this week. It will publicly unveil both later this month at the Frankfurt auto show.
The production version of the XLV is expected to launch in early 2016. The crossover will come in front- and all-wheel-drive configurations with a choice of either a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine or the same size diesel mill. Manual and automatic 6-speed transmissions will be available for each engine.
Media reports speculate that the boxy XAV concept previews the fourth-generation of SsangYong's Korando crossover vehicle that also could be launched next year. The current Korando was introduced in 2010 and received a mid-cycle freshening in 2013.
SsangYong introduced the 5-seat Tivoli in January. It's the first vehicle developed under Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., which acquired the South Korean carmaker out of bankruptcy in 2011.
