General Motors Co.'s Opel/Vauxhall operations in Europe plan to unveil a new GT concept car at next year's Geneva auto show, AutoExpress reports.

Citing unnamed sources, the U.K. enthusiast publication says the concept will be a 2+2 sports coupe based on the latest Astra hatchback introduced earlier this year. Styling cues will be borrowed from the 1960s-era Opel GT and 2013 Monza concept vehicle.

If approved, a production version of the coupe could hit the streets in 2017 to compete against the Audi TT and Volkswagen Scirocco, according to AutoExpress. A convertible could be added a year later.

The concept's interior is expected to be derived from the Astra. Several of Opel's current 3- and 4-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines also would be repurposed for the GT, AutoExpress says.
