As part of its expansion plans, Volkswagen AG’s Bentley unit is developing several new models to follow the just-launched Bentayga crossover/SUV.
Speaking at the launch of the Bentayga—Bentley’s first crossover—in Spain, CEO Wolfgang Durheimer tells reporters the company is planning a high-end version of the Bentayga, a smaller crossover/SUV and a new sports car with a limited-edition all-electric variant.
The so-called “super” Bentayga will get more aggressive styling and an even higher octane version of the crossover’s 600-hp, twin-turbocharged W-12 engine. The souped-up model will be “a lot faster” than the base model’s segment-leading top speed of 187 mph, company officials tell Auto Express.
The smaller crossover will be positioned between Porsche’s Cayenne and Macan models, according to other media reports. A variety of turbocharged gasoline and diesel V-8 engines likely will be offered, including hybrid-electric variants and possibly the high-powered 6.0-liter W-12. The vehicle could be introduced in concept form in 2017 and launched a year later.
The new sports car will be a mid-engine two-seater based on this year’s stylish EXP 10 Speed Six concept car, according to media reports. Power likely will come from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 adapted from Bentley’s Audi sibling. The EV variant is expected to produce as much as 500 hp with a top speed of 200 mph and a 310-mile driving range.
