Tenneco Inc. is supplying high-pressure gas monotube shock absorbers for the all-new Jaguar XE sports sedan. The shock absorbers contribute to a 20% stiffer suspension than Jaguar's previous X models and helps optimize ride and handling characteristics, according to the companies. The lightweight, laser-welded monotube shock absorbers include a unique valve design that allows for more mounting options, improved tunability, higher damping levels with superior consistency and durability and improved response compared with twin tube shocks, Tenneco says.

In addition, low damping forces can be independently tuned in rebound and compression modes, and the system independently adjusts damping blow-off levels and progression rates in mid- to high-speed ranges. Damping force and progression rate are dependent on each other in conventional monotube designs, Tenneco notes.
