The new sub-brand Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. plans to launch in China within the next year will be introduced in Europe at about the same time, Autocar reports.
The U.K. enthusiast publication, which doesn’t cite its sources, says the new brand could debut in both markets by the end of the year. A Reuters report earlier this month indicated the rollout would start in China sometime in 2017, with exports to other markets to follow at an unspecified date after the brand had been established locally.
Code named “L,” the new brand would be positioned below Geely’s Volvo premium nameplate. Vehicles—starting with a new SUV and a sedan later—would share a platform with Volvo’s “compact modular architecture,” which also is expected to carry future Geely models.
Geely and Volvo have declined to comment on the new brand. But a Geely official tells Autocar that it will unveil a “new product range” this year.
