In 2013 Ford Motor Co. began recalling 2010-2012 model Super Duty F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks to replace an exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor that should shut down the engine.
But the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching a new probe into the problem after receiving 30 complaints about failures in trucks that had been repaired previously, and others outside the original recall group.
NHTSA notes that the affected trucks have multiple EGT sensors, but Ford opted to replace only one. The agency cites complaints of replaced sensor that fail again, and reports that multiple sensors in different locations have failed over time.
