Honda Motor Co. says its 2016 Accord is the most technically advanced version of the high-volume midsize car to date. The vehicle, which hits dealerships next month with coupe and sedan variants, features a variety of advanced safety, infotainment and convenience systems.
It is the first Honda model compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto interfaces. The optional systems allow users to access smartphone features and apps through a new 7-inch touchscreen.
The Honda Sensing safety package introduced on the new CR-V and Pilot crossover vehicles will be available on all versions of the new Accord. It includes pre-collision braking, lane-keeping assist and departure warning, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning.
A new multi-angle rearview camera and expanded view driver's mirror are standard. Other available goodies include automated high-beam headlights, heated rear seats, front and rear parking sensors and new rain-sensing windshield wipers.
The Accord's redesigned front end gets Acura-inspired headlights, a sculpted bumper, more distinctive chromed radiator grille and an aluminum hood. In the rear, the car is fitted with a new bumper and restyled LED taillamps connected by a thin strip of chrome trim.
No mechanical changes have been made. The base engine continues to be a direct-injected 2.4-liter 4-cylinder unit mated to either a 6-speed manual or continuously variable transmission. The up-level 3.5-liter V-6 is paired with a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual.
