NCP Coatings Acquires Glyptal to Expand Specialty Coatings
NCP Coatings LLC strengthens its portfolio with Glyptal Inc., focusing on high-performance electrical insulation and automotive engine coatings.
NCP Coatings LLC (Niles, Michigan), a manufacturer of industrial and military coatings, has announced the acquisition of Glyptal Inc. (Chelsea, Massachusetts), a recognized manufacturer of high-performance insulating enamel technologies for the electrical and automotive markets. This marks NCP’s first acquisition since becoming a private equity-backed company, and supports NCP’s long-term strategy to build a mid-market coatings leader focused on high-performance, technology-driven solutions.
Founded as a development arm of General Electric and later spun off as a private company, Glyptal has operated for decades as a specialty provider of insulating coatings used in electric motors, transformers, coils and other industrial applications. Its products are trusted for their durability, thermal stability and insulating performance across OEM and repair market segments.
Under the terms of the agreement, Glyptal’s brand will remain intact, and operations will be integrated into NCP Coatings’ headquarters in Niles, Michigan. Customers will continue to receive the same reliable products and trusted formulations while gaining access to the broader NCP portfolio, including a wide range of industrial and military coatings.
“This acquisition complements our portfolio, extends our reach into new applications and signals our intent to continue scaling the business through technology-led growth,” says Doug Mattscheck, CEO of NCP Coatings. “We’re excited to welcome Glyptal into the NCP family.”
The acquisition closed July 31, 2025. Glyptal’s family ownership will assist with the transition over the coming months before exiting the business.
