Former Ford Motor Co. CEO Alan Mulally has joined the board of Redwood City, Calif.-based Carbon3D Inc. as the startup's first outside director.
The two-year-old company is promoting a new approach to 3-D printing it calls CLIP (continuous liquid interface production) that "grows" parts instead of printing them layer by layer. Carbon3D says CLIP promises the ability to make commercial-quality parts at "game-changing speeds."
Mulally, who left as Ford's CEO last July 1, joined Google Inc.'s board two weeks later.
