General Motors Co. is working on a higher output version of the already revved up Cadillac ATS-V variant of its small car, according to several media reports. Dubbed the ATS-V+, the new model will be powered by a 7.0-liter LS7 V-8 engine mated with either an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed manual. A dual-clutch gearbox may be added later.

The LS7 engine, which is hand-built at GM's Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Ohio, is borrowed from the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and previous versions of the Corvette Z06. It generated 505 hp and 481 lb-ft of torque in the Z06 application. This compares with 464 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque for the twin-turbo, 3.6-liter V-6 used in the current ATS-V.

The ATS-V+ also will get complete brake and suspension upgrades. Both coupe and sedan styles are expected, along with muscular body kits.
