Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is replacing a faulty engine accessory drive belt in 165,900 of its 2008-2011 cars and SUVs sold in the U.S.
The campaign covers 2008-2011 Lancer and Lancer Evolution cars and Outlander SUVs, 2009-2011 Lancer Sportback cars and 2011 Outlander Sport SUV models.
All affected vehicles are equipped with the company's 4B1 engine. MMC says the engine belt may prematurely wear out the pulley, which in turn would damage the belt and may cause the belt to detach. If that happens, the power steering would stop working, the engine could overheat and the battery may discharge.
MMC says dealers will install a higher-quality belt and, if necessary, replace the pulley.
