Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is calling back 174,400 older models cars and SUVs in the U.S. to replace a front suspension component that could rust and cause the steering to fail.
The recall covers certain 2002-2013 Lancer sedans and wagons and Outlander small SUVs. The campaign covers vehicles sold or registered in the 22 “snowbelt” states and the District of Columbia.
The vehicles’ front cross member can become corroded from exposure to winter road salt. If so, one or both lower control arms, which help position the front wheels, could detach and leave the driver unable to control the vehicle. MMC says dealers will inspect the front cross member and either apply an anti-corrosion agent or replace the component.
