Mitsubishi Motor Corp. says it will resume domestic sales on Oct. 1 of eight models whose fuel efficiency had been overstated.
MMC admitted last spring of falsifying test data about the efficiency of four mini-vehicle models, which have since been reinstated. The company conceded in August it also had cheated on fuel economy ratings of eight other models, including popular SUVs, prompting a temporary sales ban on those vehicles.
The company has been paying each affected owner as much as 100,000 yen ($989) in compensation for higher fuel and tax costs. Their vehicles were rated as much as 9% higher than their true fuel economy level because MMC either falsified results or guessed values rather than conducting actual tests. The company has since restated the ratings.
