Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota Expand Takata Airbag Recalls Again

Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi are extending already expanded U.S. recalls to replace Takata airbag inflators to cover 3.1 million more models in other markets worldwide.
Toyota has already called back 5.8 million vehicles in the U.S. including almost 1.4 million last week to replace driver- and passenger-side Takata inflators that could explode when triggered.
Today the company said it is adding nearly 2.9 million vehicles to replace passenger-side airbags. The new group of 24 models were built between 2003 and 2008. Most of the affected vehicles are in Europe (1.7 million units), Japan (360,000) and China (190,000).
Meanwhile, Nissan says it is expanding its U.S. Takata recalls to include 198,000 Navara pickup trucks, Caravan large vans and Teana midsize sedans in various global markets The new batch of vehicles was made between early 2007 and the end of 2008.
Mitsubishi says it intends to add 120,000 more vehicles in other parts of the world to its Takata inflator recalls.
