Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is mulling a plan to offer a small car in Europe that would ride a Renault-Nissan platform, Automotive News Europe reports.

The two companies announced a year ago that MMC would market two Renault-based sedans: a small car for global markets and a midsize model for North America.

The midsize car will be based on the Renault Latitude made by Renault Samsung in South Korea. The sedan is expected to debut in Canada and the U.S. in about three years.

Details about the smaller car, which would arrive later, are unclear. CEO Osamu Masuko tells ANE the companies have not decided whether a variant of the small car also would be offered as a Renault or Nissan model. Nor have they chosen a production site. The newspaper says the model may replace the slow-selling Mitsubishi Lancer.
