Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has won approval for its $4.5 billion plan to build a Jeep SUV factory in Detroit and expand several other facilities in the city.

FCA also secured more than $300 million worth of state and local funding, tax breaks and other incentives.
The multi-facility project consists of a new $1.6 billion Jeep plant (pictured), a $900 million update of FCA’s existing Jefferson Avenue complex in Detroit to add Jeep capacity, and upgrades at three other facilities in the metropolitan area.
FCA says the projects will create more than 6,000 direct jobs within three years. Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer estimates the gain will be about eight times as great when supplier jobs are included.
