Mazda Motor Corp. last week produced the one millionth MX-5 Miata roadster.

The milestone was achieved 27 years after the first Miata rolled off the line at Mazda’s Ujina Plant No. 1 in Hiroshima in April 1989. The millionth MX-5, which the carmaker is keeping, will tour the U.S. this autumn. It is a red soft-top powered by a 1.5-liter engine.

The nameplate set a Guinness World Record as the best-selling two-seat sports car, with 531,890 units produced by May 2000. The fourth-generation model bowed last summer.
