Automakers sold 83,600 cars and light trucks in Mexico last month compared with 75,100 units in March 2011, carmaker group AMIA reports. Demand increased 11% to 233,600 units in the first quarter of 2012.

AMIA says production grew 9% to a record 268,600 light vehicles in March and 11% to a record 713,600 units in the three-month period.

Exports jumped 23% to 236,600 vehicles last month and 15% to 589,600 units in January-March, the group says.
