Meritor Inc. has reorganized its three operating units into two and appointed new presidents for those businesses. Both will report to CEO Chip McClure.
The company combined its previously separate commercial truck and industrial units. Tim Bowes, who has overseen Meritor's truck business for the past 18 months, has been named head of the merged operations. He previously was president of the company's Shanghai-based industrial business.
In his new job, Bowes will be responsible for Meritor's drivetrain systems and components for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, buses and military, construction and emergency vehicles.
Meritor's existing aftermarket and trailer unit remains as the second unit. It will be led by Pedro Ferro, who currently heads industrial operations. His new job includes oversight of undercarriage parts and systems for trailers and remanufactured and replacement truck parts such as axles, brakes and suspension components.
Ferro, who also will take charge of Meritor's corporate strategy group, will relocate from China to the company's Troy, Mich., headquarters. He joined the company last year from Berkshire Hathaway's Marmon Group, where he was president of the commercial vehicle undercarriage unit.
Joe Mejaly, who headed aftermarket and trailer operations, will retire after 27 years at Meritor.
Separately, the company says it will consolidate its remanufacturing operations by transferring such work to its recently upgraded Plainfield, Ind., facility from a plant in Mississauga, Ont., by March 31.
