Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit is preparing to recall 351,200 of its vehicles in China to replace Takata Corp. airbag inflators that may explode in a crash.

The campaign, which will begin on Oct. 15, targets imported and locally assembled cars and crossover vehicles made between 2006 and 2012, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

Other carmakers are conducting similar recalls to replace Takata inflators in more than 20 million vehicles in China. The devices, which may deteriorate after prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity, have been linked to at least 16 deaths and 180 injuries worldwide.
