Mercedes Sales Rise 11% in April

Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz Cars unit delivered a record 164,100 vehicles in April. Results pushed the brand’s total for the first four months of 2016 to a record 650,000 vehicles.

Mercedes posted big gains last month in Europe (+14% to 73,100 units) and China (+32% to 35,600). Demand in the U.S. was flat at 29,200 vehicles. One-third of the brand’s volume came from its expanding array of A- and B-Class small cars.

Daimler says sales of its Smart city cars grew 10% to 12,100 units in April. The gain was buoyed by strong results in China, Germany and Italy.
