Mercedes Sales Climb 13%

Daimler AG reports that deliveries of its Mercedes-Benz cars and SUV/crossovers in May rose 13% to a record 170,600 units for the month. Sales through the first five months of 2016 reached a record 818,200, up 12%.

Mercedes sales last month gained 14% to 74,300 units in Europe and 24% to 57,400 units in Asia Pacific. Deliveries in the U.S. dipped 1% to 29,300 vehicles but continued to lead rival BMW.

Daimler notes that global demand for Mercedes compact cars expanded 16% to a record 53,600 units in May. SUV sales zoomed 42% to a record 58,500 units.
