Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been chosen 2015 World Car of the Year. The car outscored the Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Passat in the final round of voting.

The award was granted at the New York auto show by the nonprofit World Car Awards. The winner was selected by a panel of 75 automotive journalists from 22 countries.

Mercedes-Benz also collected WCOTY awards for the S Coupe (World Luxury Car) and AMG GT (World Performance Car). Other sector winners this year include the Citroen C4 Cactus MPV (World Car Design of the Year) and the BMW i8 hybrid supercar (World Green Car).

Entrants are scored according to their occupant environment, performance, price/value, safety, environmental impact, market significance and emotional appeal. Previous World Car of the Year winners include the Audi A3 small sedan (2014), Volkswagen Golf (2013) hatchback and Volkswagen Up! small hatch (2012).
